Costa Rica – from the rainforest to the ocean

This journey combines two worlds of Costa Rica: the rain and cloud forests of the interior and the spectacular underwater world of the Pacific coast. Howler monkeys in the jungle, the rare quetzal in the misty cloud forest, turtles, tropical fish and perhaps even mantas or sharks in the Pacific.

Non-divers come along too. While divers explore the Pacific, partners can join the boat trips, snorkel, watch dolphins or simply enjoy the coast. The trip is led by Matthias Richter, owner of Tauchschule Sauerland.

• 27 May – Arrival in San José: Bougainvillea Hotel
• 28 May – To Tortuguero: boat ride through the rainforest, Evergreen Lodge
• 29 May – Tortuguero National Park: sunrise boat safari, village and turtle museum
• 30 May – Arenal Volcano & hot springs: Hotel Los Lagos
• 31 May – Hanging bridges & La Fortuna Waterfall: lunch on a local finca, optional zipline
• 1 Jun – Monteverde: El Trapiche coffee farm, Monteverde Country Lodge
• 2 Jun – Santa Elena cloud forest and night walk
• 3 Jun – Las Pumas Rescue Center, then on to Playas del Coco, M&M Beach House
• Days 9–14 – Diving, snorkelling and relaxing in Playas del Coco: 4 diving days / 12 dives in the Golfo Papagayo, and 2 diving days / 6 dives at the Bat Islands and Catalina Islands
• 10 Jun – Departure: private transfer to San José airport

The Bat Islands and Catalina Islands dives involve currents, swell and drift diving without anchoring, and are for advanced divers only.
